30th anniversary events underway

Our special programme of anniversary events got underway on 25 April with a presentation to the Biddenham History Society on the history of carp ponds and dovecotes, including the village’s own, and also of some village personalities of yesteryear. It seems we should thank the ancient Egyptians for domesticating wild pigeons thousands of years ago, and we also discovered the origins of Tanqueray Gin. How are they connected? You should have been there!

A week later, the Friends of St James Bank Holiday Monday ramble trampled down the ancient Coffin Path to the pond where Friends of the Pond’s Peter Applewhite talked to the ramblers about the pond and the former dovecote. The ramblers left the pond to trample the ancient path once more on their way to Cowslip Meadow, which lived up to its name, as you can see.

You’ll find in the Diary details of anniversary events to come during the rest of the year.
