Chris didn’t spot any amphibians on his solitary frog foray on 18 March but did identify a strong population of greater and lesser ramshorn snails. The greater are as big as a 50p coin and between them they help graze the plants in the pond. There were as usual plenty of small zooplankton, taking their place in the food chain. Despite an earlier Spring in some respects, it was perhaps a bit early for discovering much more in the pond.
And the Spring morning approaches – Saturday, 16 April from 10.00 am down at the pond.
