Summer Splash out and AGM

Thank you very much to all who came along to the Church Barn on Sunday, 9 June for our Summer event and AGM, and thank you for your continuing support for our village pond.

We went back in time with a David Eyre video of activities down at the pond in 1994 and 1995, happy memories of events and friends from nearly 20 years ago. And Chris Jones’ fascinating display of wildlife under the microscope attracted much interest: it’s always a great favourite with all ages.

An interesting find in the pond

An interesting find in the pond

We looked back too at a busy year for the pond, which happily was not suffering from a shortage of water as the previous drought years had been followed by somewhat wetter ones more recently! Azolla had reappeared but had largely been cleared, only to be replaced not long after by a bounty of blanket weed. You can’t win! …

The big events of the year were the creation and unveiling of our new information board by the pond (do pop and see it if you haven’t already) and the building and launch of our own website. You can see the full review of activities tabled at the event by clicking here – AGM 2013

The pond management committee was re-elected for a further year at the Friends AGM held during the afternoon and Andrew Ewing was re-appointed as independent examiner of the accounts.

Our cake bakers and tea makers were warmly thanked for providing such a delicious spread for us.

If you are not already a Friend of the Pond, for the small sum of £5 per annum your household could join the Friends and be part of the village’s effort to conserve and maintain the pond as a valued village amenity and wildlife resource. You will be most welcome. There’s a membership application form here you can print and complete.

Finally, a date for your diary: Saturday, 9 November from 10.00 am to lunchtime, our Autumn work morning at the pond. More details nearer the day on the website, in the Bulletin, and on the village notice boards.
